Process Engineer Roy Zeigler Bikes to Work

With rising fuel costs, most Americans are considering alternative ways to get to work. Car pools are gaining popularity and some make the commute by foot or bicycle. Roy Zeigler, a process engineer at Century Marketing, rides his sleek recumbent trike to work, but not in response to soaring fuel prices.
“It’s actually about fitness” he laughs. “My wife [Terry, who also works for Century Marketing] still drives the car to work, so we aren’t really saving on gas.”
For the past nine years, Roy and his uncle have taken a two-week biking trip in late summer, covering between 400 and 600 miles. As September approaches, Roy is increasing his training routine and anticipates riding to work at least two days in a row. This is quite an accomplishment considering Roy lives 15 miles north of Bowling Green, Ohio.
Roy and Terry bike around town for shopping trips and just for a relaxing evening. Roy is a member of the Underground Railroad Bicycle Group which follows the historic routes slaves traveled to seek refuge in northern states and Canada. The route extends from Mobile, Alabama to Owen Sound, Ontario (a distance of over 2000 miles).
“I find that as I get older, my mileage lessens” Roy says. However, Roy still averages between 1200 and 1500 miles a year. His dedication to fitness and subsequent reduction of fuel usage serve as inspiration for colleagues at Century Marketing. Roy has worked for the company for 13 years.
