Red Cross CPR and First Aid Training
Each year, Century Marketing holds cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid training sessions for employees through the American Red Cross. Diana Rumschlag, Human Resources Generalist for CMC Group, stressed the importance of certification, “We want to make sure that every area and shift is covered with someone who is trained.” Trainees also learned how to use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). “We have an AED in every break room,” said Rumschlag stressing, “Only those who are certified should use it.”
Participants are selected based on their involvement with Century’s Safety Committee and by need for shift and area coverage. Rumschlag said that it is important for the company to have certified employees because of its location in relation to Bowling Green, Ohio. “Since we are outside of the city, we usually have to wait for a county backup.” According to the American Red Cross website, 250,000 Americans pass away each year from sudden cardiac arrest, but with quick initiation of CPR and the use of an AED, more lives can be saved.
This May, 16 Century employees went through the intensive six-hour training session. There are also 8-10 employees at DayMark who are certified. First aid certification is valid for three years and CPR certification lasts for a year.
